I have a laptop. At work it has an static IP address. I
took it home one weekend in January and set up a
connection for my modem and local ISP. I had no problem
getting to the Net. I took it back to work on Monday and
plugged it into the network. I said it could reach any
network devices. I checked my IP address and it was the
same as before. I tried an ipconfig in the CP and just
got "WIndows IP Configuration" even though the GUI showed
the corrected info. Luckily, (I thought at the time) I
had made a system restore point before I set up the
connection with my ISP. I did a system restore to that
point and things were fine for the moment.
Since January I have had my laptop do the same thing
about 10 times and I always have to go back to that same
restore point. Which causes me to lose software I
installed.
I tried changing the Connections settings on the Internet
Options menu, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. It
baffles me that I get nothing when I do an ipconfig.
What is going on here? And how can I fix this from
happening again? I thought that XP would have had no
problems with the 2 connections, but I was wrong.
Thanks for any help.
