View Full Version : VPN Issue
David,
(1) I guess you either have a static ip or "dynamic dns
service" for the desktop's cable internet service
connection?
(2) Did you enable PPTP "pass through" feature on your
router?
(3) ZoneAlarm completely fooled me during my setup. I have
to keep the security level to "medium" to get the vpn
working.
(4) Did you Assign ip addresses on vpn server/client that
do not conflict with your desktop network's ips?
I hope this check list would help.

Good points, I'd also like to know if you can connect when the firewall is
disabled? You mentioned having "no luck", is that no luck disabling it? or
you disabled it, but it made no difference? And when enabled, if you can
perhaps get in w/ the DMZ? It would be helpful to VERIFY this is a firewall
issue AT ALL, before wasting time tracking down false leads. Btw, I assume
you have NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled?!

I have disabled the firewall and it did not make a difference. I have also
tired making the desktop the DMZ which came up with the same problem, which
I'm sorry, I should have mentioned this as well.
I'm just assuming this may be a firewall issue. I'm not sure if it is or
not. I would almost think it might be because I am able to find the server,
I'm just unable to connect. It will just hang on verifying user name and
password.
I have NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled on the laptop and I've tired two setting
on the desktop, the default setting and NetBIOS over TCP/IP setting. Still
nothing.
The error I am receiving when the connection times out is "Error: 619 A
connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used
for this connection was closed"
