Hello,
I have recently been having the following problem:
Upon pressing CTRL/ALT/DEL once, task manager flashes on
my screen for a second and on my taskbar a green icon
appears next to the clock. The icon stays until I drag
my pointer over it.
Repeated CTRL ALT DEL continuosly add green icons but do
not restart my computer. Does anyone know what the
problem is?
Brian
Thank you in advance.

w32.spybot worm disables NAV, Msconfig, Regedit and Task Manager:
http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/virusinfo.php?menu_id=1&v_id=114
Try this to:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.spybot.worm.html
Rename regedit.exe to regedit.com then:
Download then Merge the edit on line 251 then delete all the files mentioned
in the above link.

Yes, it pops up then disappears. But I really want to be
able to manage programs that are currently running or not
responding and end the task.
Thank you for the advice.

It's not spybot, I checked via the info you gave me.
Hmmm... might be something I turned off or on or
something...
Thank you,
Brian

Why would it be something you turned off or on. A feature to kill =
programs automatically? Windows prefers the approach of not letting them =
start in the first place.
It's a virus. The two most common are
=
tml
=
l
But it's a virus. You do have a virus checker don't you. If not get a =
free one here
www.grisoft.com
If it's not klez, spybot or yaha post back here with it's name. But your =
answer lies in AV sites.

See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Create Emergency Copies of Critical
XP System Utilities. This small VB Program will create backup, usable
copies of Task Manger, Regedit and MSConfig (named Taskmgr1.exe, Regedit.com
and MSConfig1.exe) in a new folder C:\EmergencyUtil. Many virus programs
will intercept these programs, based on their original file name. The
modified file names, allow them to be run. Open Windows Explorer to
C:\EmergencyUtil and double click the application you need. The next
revision will allow you to browse for the folder you want to place the
backups in.
Additionally, see the Win XP Utilities section for Startup Programs Tracker.
This small utility scans your system for startup programs and running
processes. It also allows you to create a log file that can be copied and
pasted into a newsgroup post. The contents of the program window are also
copied to the Windows Clipboard, automatically.
