View Full Version : Search For Files Containing Text

I don't seem to be able to do a "search for files
containing text". Always returns no files found - even
when existing files actually satisfy the search criteria
(all files, not case sensitive, etc).

Guess I have a configuration problem.

Hope somebody can help.

Thanks ... Ian

No, the search tool in XP has a problem. If the extension you are
searching isn't registered with Windows so it knows how to search in the
file, then it simply doesn't try to look in that file for the text string.
There are two ways around this. One is to register every file extension
with Windows so it will search the file. The other is to use a better
search tool. I like Agent Ransack, a free search tool from
www.agentransack.com.

I registered the extension and tried again - Windows XP
Pro Search still doesn't list the files (even after a
restart).

So I tried Agent Ransack - worked perfectly - very
impressive!

Thank you for your help - much appreciated!

Have a GREAT day ... Ian
