When looking at the Local Area Connection Status (accessed from Network
Connections menu) on the General tab under the Connection: heading, there
are normally three values: Status, Duration, and Speed). Occasionally,
lately, a fourth has been appearing internittently that reads, "Signal
Strength", but gives no number. As far as I know I do not have a wireless
internet card installed on my computer, nor is it IR capable. I'm running
a
Sony Vaio PCV-RX850, 2.4G P4, 512MB, 80G HD, SB Audigy 2, Onboard SiS
graphic accelerator, ATI TV WonderVE,
and a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC. There are also two
1394
connections listed in the Conenctions Menu. Has anyone heard of this?
What does the Signal Strength refer to? Is it possible that my system
security
has been compromised (I left my computer unattended for a few days with an
ex who worked in IT and there are areas of my CPU that are really difficult
to get to. I did a thorough visual search of the areas that I can reach,
but not the entire case)? Also, the Wireless Zero Configuration is running
in my list of services. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
