View Full Version : Sharing "FAVORITES" folder

What the EASIEST way to get the Favorites Folder into the
Shared folder.
Just doesn't seem right to have to network our own
computer, but only one of us gets the Favorites folder
and can't access it from their own desk top.
I know there has to be a trick or easy way, but I can't
get this Rubik's cube to work.
Thanks!!

Yes Larry, I have. I cannot get the favorites on the
same page as the Shared Documents folder and the
Favorites Folder will not Drag.
I really hope you weren't being sarcastic. I'm an
experienced Windows user, but brand new to XP. In other
words, I've tried all the obvious.

Cause the favourites will drag. Perhaps you should explain clearly. For =
instance there is no "page', do you mean window of the Shared Docs =
folder. I have no idea what your question is about. Babbling about =
networks, this is relevent - how?

Okay, never mind. I figured it out. Just needed to know
where the folders were located for this new (to me) file
sharing system, and what they were called.
It would have been simple, Larry, to just hint at where
the folders were located, (and their new names),
to "copy" them to (NOT drag and drop) and avoid the
sarcasm.
But, it's the 2000's. The world is not a very nice place
for nice people any more.
I did it myself!! 8^)
So I can say I helped someone else, The master Favorites
folder is in the C:\Documents and Settings\default
Folder. You can then "COPY" them to the person's folder
you want to share the Favorites with. Their folders are
also in the C:\Documents and Settings folder.
(don't drag and drop!! -- Drag, while holding the CTRL
key down (get the "+" sign next to the folder you're
dragging))
Hope this helps some other person new to XP and save some
time for you.

You are the only one who thinks he's sarcastic.
If you copy the registry does not get updated with the new path. It must =
be a move - the default for dag and drop on the ame drive/.

What? you ran a survey? >You are the only one who
thinks he's sarcastic.> I did, and everyone here thinks
he's sarcastic.
"Copy" worked for me!!
I didn't want the registry to get updated with the new
path!! I just wanted everyone on my home network (or,
Windows XP Personal Page, if you want to be anal) to have
a copy of the "FAVORITES" folder so they could all start
using their personal page with the favorites as we all
know it. We're not used to having our own separate page,
just one for everyone, (Windoze ME, no network, one
computer...) What they do with it later is their business.
If I "MOVE" it, then I haven't accomplished my purpose.
How much clearer can I be?

Hey Larry,
Me too. I was about at the end of my rope and getting a
little frustrated over a little thing like "where's the
stupid folder".
You'd think I'd learn not to communicate when my
frustrations are high.
Either way, I'm fixed and no hard feelings.

Alan:
I am glad to here that you got it fixed. No hard feelings. These groups do
get some people that seems to be the only way they can get there aggressions
out is to insult others, and use a false name to hide there inability to
cope with everyday life.:o)
