can i use XP as an internet gateway?

I would like to set up my 'spare' PC like a server. It should issue DHCP IP
numbers and act as the 'default gateway' for the other PC's to the internet.
It should autodial my freephone ISP via my serial ISDN modem (yes I know
it's called a TA).

Would XP home do this? or do I need XP Pro (I can't really afford XP
server!)

Hi,

You can use Internet Connection Sharing on either XP Home or XP Pro to do
this. Follow the steps in htis KB article:

You may also want to take a peek at www.NAT32.com and see the latest
offerings, why's and the wherefores of internet sharing. I've used his
software in the past and it worked as advertised. He was also quick to
respond to any questions I had.

There's no such thing as XP Server - it isn't a server OS (you're thinking
of Windows Server Edition 2003 which is a different kettle of kippers
altogether). You'd probably need to upgrade to Pro.
