View Full Version : SNTP synchronization period problem ?

Hi,

I have configured w32time service to use my ISP's NTP
server and it works fine. But synchonization occurs every
17 minutes regardless registry settings (see
www.winguides.com). It has the same behavior on three
independent PCs using three different NTP servers
(including one corporate).

Please does somebody have any idea what's going on here ?
I want to decrease frequency to one day only.

Frantisek

Since you didn't post the URL, and I am too lazy to search the site, did you add/change this value
and reboot the PC afterwards?

You can also increase or decrease the frequency of updates by making a simple registry change. Add
or change the "SpecialPollInterval" DWORD setting. Note the value is in seconds...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient\

For example mine is set to 86400, that's in seconds, so I poll the time server once each 24 hours.

You can also do this via a Group Policy, although I have never done it this way. Run gpedit.msc from
the command line window and navigate to...

Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Windows
Time Service -> Time Providers -> Configure Windows NTP Client

Right-click and select "Properties", select "Enable" and change the "SpecialPollInterval" value. I
don't know if you need to reboot or not after making this change, however.

Good luck...

The other thought is...are any or all of these PCs on a corporate network and time synchronizing
with a domain controller at the frequency you state?
