I currently have a Win2k machine connected to an ADSL Modem/Router with 4
ethernet ports.

The LAN status for the router is:
IP Address: 192.168.7.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Act as Local DHCP Server: No
MAC Address: 00:30:EB:C6:48:96

The LAN settings for the Win2K machine are:
Local IP Address: 192.168.7.2
LAN Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.7.1
Preferred DNS Server 195.112.4.4
Alternate DNS Server 195.112.4.7

Internet connection for the Win2k machine is fine. I then connected a new
machine with a clean WinXP Pro installation with LAN settings as:
IP Address: 192.168.7.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.7.1
Preferred DNS Server 195.112.4.4
Alternate DNS Server 195.112.4.7

Networking and Internet connection was fine for both machines until I
rebooted the WinXP machine. The Win2k machine is OK but WinXP machine was
unable to ping either the router or the Win2K machine. If I disable and then
re-enable the LAN connection on the WinXP machine everything is fine again
until I reboot the WinXP machine. I have to disable and then re-enable the
LAN connection again to get it working.

Any ideas as to why I have to disable and then re-enable the LAN connection
on the WinXP machine every time I reboot it to get the LAN connection to
work?

TIA

Anthony
