When I boot up I am presented with the following pop up box entitled "User
Environment", it states: Windows cannot load up the users profile but has
logged you on with the default profile for the system. This is followed by a
description of the fault under "Detail", it states: The system has attempted
to load or restore a file in the registry but the specified file is not in a
registry file format.
A countdown timer from 30 seconds to zero is activated and, at zero, my
desktop appears and I can then get on with life.
How can I suppress this pop-up?
Thanks.

Hi Bolero,
This behavior may occur if the current user profile is damaged
Create a new user and copy the user data to it.
Follow this procedure:

Thanks for the information- I wonder if you could provide some clarity to
me. I downloaded teh webpage you referred to and I am trying to work
through it. No problem in creating the new user account but I am not sure
about the sequence of events under the heading "Restore the User Profile".
In reference to steps 3 and 4 - does this mean that I have to copy the dozen
or so sub-directories and their contents.
Thanks
Ramesh

Yes!. You need to copy all the files/folders including sub-folders,
hidden-folders to the newly created profile directory.
