Help!!!

I'm trying to network a laptop and desktop ( both windows
XP Pro) computer through a netgear RP614 router, which is
connected to a cable modem. Every time I reboot my laptop
(Win XP Pro SP1), I lose all network access (internet &
Local) on the laptop. All network drive shares are
reported as "unknown" computer. I can Ping both ways
without any problem. IPConfig /all shows that an IP has
been properly assigned and doesn't show any other
problems. The only way I've been able to re-establish the
network is to un-install file sharing and the client for
microsoft networks, and then re-install them, but this
only works until the next boot cycle. During boot-up,
following logon screen, the computer will hang for awhile
before loading, as if trying to establish network
connection. I've tried running a bootlog, by msconfig'ing
and selecting safe mode boot, with network, and bootlog
enabled, but my bootlog.txt file isn't updated. I' ve
tried un-installing/re-installing all network components
(except TCPIP), including the network adapter, file
sharing, & network client. After the re-install everything
works great, -until system is rebooted. Is it possible
that some settings aren't being stored (a R/O settings
file)? I've just read about a KB article "299357 - How to
Reset Internet Protocol (TCP-IP) in Windows XP" using
netsh. I'll try that later this evening. For
troubleshooting, I've temporarily disabled any
services/apps that are not necessary, i.e. firewalls,
Norton utilities, etc.

If I could see what windows component is hanging on boot-
up, I might be able to determine the problem. Why isn't my
bootlog.txt file updated when I select the bootlog options
in MSCONFIG (as mentioned above).

I sure would appreciate any ideas. I suppose for now I
could leave the computer powered up. It's sure a hassle to
reinstall networking after every reboot.

Thanks

Dave
