Accessing network query?

Whenever I try to access a file from my boyfriends pc or
dial the internet on my pc, my boyfriend who is on the
same network as me, is getting a box up saying something
along the lines of " what connection do you wish to use to
access "www.symantec.com on the remote server". Can anyone
please explain what this is and why it is happening? We
both want to use our own pc's to connect to the internet,
but it seems to be wanting to share the connection.
