D drive main drive, acts a C drive

um I just recently restored my Compaq 5726 model...this
came with windows 98...i eventually got XP pro and
installed it...but the first time I installed it I chose
to kept my current files, etc...well now that I restored
my comp to windows 98...then installed XP pro I chose the
new installation option where it deleted everything and
freed my comp up...I like this better... but the problem
is that now when I try to install anything it
automatically chooses D: drive when before it chose the
C: drive, the main one...i didnt notice this until i
started getting messages that the memory was too low and
that I had to free space(meaning deleting progs)
HOW DO I FIX THIS PLZ HELP ASAP!?!?!?!

Not sure I followed all that, but would yr OS be installed on D: drive?
