Two issues, maybe they are related...
New computer, setup on the bench here and initially setup its internet to go
through a cable modem. Updated WinXP, Norton Anti-Virus, Office...
Took to client, who uses dial-up to connect. Re-ran the wizard to establish
the internet settings.
1) We have set the connection to Always Dial. When we start IE or OE
(latest versions), both propgrams sit, as if they are waiting for the cable
modem connection to start. We have to close the programs, connect using the
dial-up connection, then restart the programs. IE/OE will not auto-dial,
even though the settings are there.
2) We maintain two identities within OE. If we are offline, we cannot
switch identities. If we are online, we can switch between identities with
no problem. We have to ensure we stay online (no disconnect after starting
OE) for OE to work properly.
Been told by the manufacturer that modem dials, and we need to contact ISP
to have this handled. This seems to be a XP issue, which is supposed to be
handled by OEM. Possible that by initially telling XP about the cable modem
that we have skewed an internet setting? We would like it to auto-dial, and
believe fixing 1) will fix 2) as well.
Thanks in advance for any insight,
Dan
