I have 3 computers on a home network A Xp Pro(ntfs), XP
home(ntfs), and WinME(Fat32). The Xp machines work fine
and network, share, connect without a flaw, however once
I bring the ME machine into the picture, neither XP
machine can acces the ME machine, yest the me machine can
see any folder i share on the XP machines, My XP pro
machine has had some luck connecting to the ME machine
but only as far as seeing the folder Structure.. The
error is that the me machine " may not be avaliable at
this time" i was actually given the error msg when i was
in a subfolder on the me machine and trying to back out
as for s running suggestion to just upgrade the ME
machine its a 400 mhz k6-2 with 512 ram but will not be
used as a userser terminal more as a file server, so if
anyone has history using xp on a old machin elike this im
open to suggestions there too.

thx for any future help and suggestions people.

The file system (NTFS, FAT32) on each computer is irrelevant. All
versions of Windows can share files with each other, regardless of the
file system.

I've written a web site that should help you solve the problem:

Windows XP Network Troubleshooting
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot

Please pay particular attention to these sections:

1. Firewalls: Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection
Firewall on local area network connections -- it's for use only on a
direct modem connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all
other firewalls while troubleshooting.

2. Protocols: Use only one for File and Printer Sharing. If the
network needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing
from all but one of them.

3. NetBIOS over TCP/IP: Make sure that it's enabled on all computers.
