I used to have a computer that did NOT make a sound when I
would sign on to the internet. Now my new computer makes
those noises when I connect to the internet. Of course I
have dial-up as you now know. So how do I get it so that
it won't make any noise?

Open Control Panel, open Phone and Modem Options, go to the Modems tab,
click Properties, go to that Modems tab, under Speaker volume, move the
slider all the way to the left and click ok.

If that doesn't work, then go to control panel \ phone..options\
modems\ properties \ advanced. Under extra settings, add M0 (that's
zero, not the letter O). Apply and okay your way out.
