View Full Version : Sharing file between XP Pro & W2K

I have a network of three computers, two W2K and one XP
Pro. The two W2k computers successfully share the cable
modem internet connection on the XP computer and are able
to access shared files on the XP computer. But the XP
computer cannot access the shared files on the W2K
computers.
Any ideas.

It's hard to say what's wrong: we don't know how you're trying to
access W2K from XP, what happens when you do it, or what the error
message says.
When you try to access W2K over the network, W2K looks at the user
name and password of the user who's requesting access. Try creating a
user account on W2K with the same user name and password that you use
to log onto XP.
If that doesn't help, please post a news group reply with complete
details of the situation. The more information you give, the more
likely it is that someone can help.

Thanks for getting back to me Steve.
When I try to access Computers near me in My Network
Places the error message is 'Workgroup not accessable. You
might not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administrator for this server to see if you
have access permissions. Incorrect function.'
I created the same user on each computer and am logged on
as that user.
I redid the shares on each shared file on each computer
and gave access to everybody.
On the McCaffree firewall I made all LAN members trusted,
plus I added thier IP's to the trusted IP list.
Also, sometimes when I clicked on computers near me it
would list itself ( the XP machine) and the other two
computers. But if I tried to access one of the two Win2k
machine it would give me the same error message as above.
