Help,
I am setting of an Windows XP Pro workstation to and
Windows 2000 Server. I have just finished setting up 5
other ones with no problem. This one I currently am
working with will connect to the domain with no problem
but when you try to add a user it comes up with the error
msg: The user could not be added because the following
error has occurred: The trust relationship between this
workstation and the primary domain failed. I am not
doing anything different from the five I have set up
already. I did join it back to a workgroup then back to
the domain again and connects to the domain fine. I just
can't add the user, that's when I error about the trust
relationship.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I am having the same problem. We have a W2K server with AD. I have begun to
add WinXP machines to the network and each time, I run up against the trust
relationship issue when I add users. At first, it connects perfectly. But
when I log on with the second user, it takes nearly a minute to
authenticate, and then when I go to the users settings, it only shows the
users on the local computer, but not users that are part of the domain.
I have been searching the newsgroups for over a week now, and so far, the
suggested fixes have not worked for me. These have included disconnecting
from the domain and working in a workgroup setting; deleting the computer
account from the W2K server, then rejoining the domain; changing the group
policy for logon to wait for a synch connection with server (aka W2K logon);
and adding the WinXP plugin (system.adm) to the group policy on the AD.
Nothing resolves the problem permanently. I keep getting the error when I
log in as a new user.
Anyone have a fix for this? Is our W2K server lacking something? The server
has SP3 installed (I haven't had the guts to try SP4 yet after reading
comments from the other newsgroup!). The WinXP machines have all the service
packs (SP1) and updates, including the .net framework.
Any thoughts?
Please help!
Thanks
