Hi,

I am trying to save pictures/images from the internet to
disc, and the only option that I have to save as is bitmap
files. All of the same pictures that I saved as JPEG
files as recently as yesterday are no longer able to be
saved as JPEG's. I'm only able to save as bitmap. How do
I get things back to the way they were?

Thanks,

Will Denny

Hi

Try clearing out your Temporary Internet Files folder:

Open Internet Explorer - then go to Tools>Internet Options - in the =
Temporary Internet Files box click on 'Delete Files...' and also check =
'Delete all offline content'.

You need to clear the temporary internet files.

Also, refer this page:
Internet Explorer Does Not Save Graphics Files in the Proper Format

Hi, I have a new computer on order so have been monitoring this group.
Lots of great info. Have had plenty of questions answered and found
things to be aware of just by following for a couple days instead of just
pounding out questions.

But I've seen this answer a few times.

Does anyone know _why_ a full TIF would cause pics to be saved in an
undesireable format? Never ran into this with 98SE and save plenty of
photos as I belong to several photo newsgroups.

Thanks,

bill n

Internet Explorer downloads alternative image formats but in most cases
interprets them as bitmaps for displaying in the browser window. That's
probably why BMP is always available as a choice. There's an article in the
MSKB that describes image rendering in IE in depth.

Alex Nichol has a theory that rings true. Not an exact quote but roughly it
goes like this: The default setting for the TIF folder is ~12% of the
drive. With today's very large hard drives that can result in a huge amount
of disk space dedicated to these temporary files. The index chokes when the
large cache is near or has reached its upper limits. The weakness is
somewhere in the indexing process. Emptying the TIF folder corrects the
immediate problem. Reducing the size of the TIF folder (Internet Options>
General> TIF> Settings) can help to avoid it.
