With the windows xp wireless software, my connection will
drop for 1-2 seconds at a time every minute or so.
normally not a big deal, but it really hurts in games,
etc. I didnt have this problem running linksys wireless
software in windowsME; I'd still be using that, but it
wont install at all in winxp. Anyone have any idea whats
going on here?

I saw exactly the same problem on my nephew's XP computer last week.
The cause was XP's Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) service scanning
for wireless networks once per minute.
If your wireless network card has its own XP configuration program
that lets you specify SSID, encryption, etc, you can disable WZC and
still connect to the network using the configuration program.
To disable WZC:
1. Right click My Computer, and click Manage.
2. Double click Services and Applications.
3. Double click Services.
4. Double click Wireless Zero Configuration. If the Service status is
Started, click Stop.
5. Set the Startup type to Disabled.
My nephew's Netgear MA101 configuration program wouldn't install on
XP, but I found an older version of the program on the Netgear web
site that would install. Perhaps there's something like that for your
Linksys.
