When I send an email with text AND pictures, the text is
received, but the picture shows up as a red outlined box
with a small box in the upper left corner (also outlined
in red with an "x"). Can anyone tell me what causes
this and/or how to correct same.

I'm not an expert but it sounds like the computer that you are sending it to
needs to reduce the security setting. Go to Tools, options and click the
security tab then uncheck the box that says "Do not allow attachments, etc.
