Problem with updates

Hope someone can help. When I scan for updates, I see
the numeral 2 next to Windows XP. Scanning brings up this
message:

There are no critical updates available at this time.

However, Windows Update has found other updates for your
computer. To browse through these updates and select the
ones you want to install, click a category title in the
list.

But I never see any updates. What is going on?
