I don't know if this will help everyone here with
networking problems but it helped me.
The default settings in the TCP/IP in XP are not ideal for
networking. You have to change it to "Enable NetBios over
TCP/IP" not the default.
Make sure all compters are using the same protocols and
all are NetBios over TCP/IP.
Changing the settings in XP:
Go to "Network Connections" and right click on your
connection and choose "Propeties"
Go to "Internet Protocol (tcp/ip)" and click
on "Properties"
Go to "Advanced" at the bottom and choose "WINS" tab.
At the bottom select "Enable NetBOIS over TCP/IP"
(Make sure the windows built-in FireWall is not on...)
