Hi, ann -
I'm gonna guess here - my first question when anyone asks
me about parallel port connections is whether they have
the proper cable. You need a cable that's specifically
designed to connect two computers by their parallel
ports - commonly called a laplink cable.
A straight-through 25 pin cable won't do it - if you're
sure you've got the proper cable this Knowledge Base
article ought to help a little -
HOW TO: Set Up a Direct Cable Connection Between Two
Computers in Windows XP

Good luck!
