View Full Version : unable to receive inbound pings to my XP Pro machine

Hi,

My XP Pro SP1 machine is not responding to inbound pings
anymore. I used to have zonealarm installed and believe
it was causing the problems, but even after uninstalling
it, my machine still does not respond to incoming ping
requests....which I believe is interfering with my
ability to use remote desktop connection as well as
network sharing issues.

it's only with the inbound pings that doesn't work...i
can ping out from my machine but external machines cannot
ping in. (ICS is also off)

has anyone had a similar problem & have a fix? I had the
same problem with my XP Pro laptop, but i was fortunate
enough to have a pre-zonealarm system restore point that
i could revert to...something that I unfortunately don't
have with my home desktop which has has XP Pro installed
for over a year.

thanks in advance,
norm

That's a common problem, usually caused by incomplete removal of
ZoneAlarm.

Go to Start | Run | Msconfig | Startup and disable any remnants of ZA.
If that doesn't solve the problem, re-install ZA, un-install it using
th procedure provided by the manufacturer, and check Msconfig again.

I have the same problem, but have never had ZA installed.
I searched high and low for something that may be causing
this. Any other suggestions? (ICS is also off)
