View Full Version : Name Change Problems on XP

I'll ask again, since no-one seems to have any clue to this
problem, nor any solution. Maybe someone will see this and
know the answer before I have to go spend $350 to ask M$
this question.

Each time I change my computer name from "My Computer" to
something else, it chages back. I've searched the registry
and replaced every instance I can find, changed it in
explorer, changed it on the desktop, etc., etc. It still
changes back--it takes a couple of days, but it always does.

Can anyone tell me if there is a bug in this area, or how
to PERMANENTLY change the name of a computer in WinXP?
There doesn't seem to be any way to do so.

Give the steps you've done. Did you right click my computer select
properties and select computer name? Is this what you want to change? Or do
you want to change the words 'My computer'?
