Hi,

In response to your question below,
I have looked into getting DirectX 8.0,
and have found that 8.0 is elusive, or
not available, however there is a patch
available titled 8.0a. This is on
the Microsoft DirectX download website at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads/default
..asp

Here's my puzzle.......................................

My own problem is that I am trying to determine
if DirectX 9.0 is compatible with WindowsXP Home Edition.

I am trying to figure out how to do
video capture, editing, AVI, and CD burning
with an analog Hi8 Sony Handycam CCD-TRV 308
on a brand new Dell Dimensions 8200
(which lists AGP 4X as the video controller)
running Windows XP Home Edition
and TRYING to use Dazzle MovieStar 5.2
(which calls for DirectX)

I went to download DirectX
and became wary due to the massive amount
of 'watch out' information related to
using with Windows XP
and incredibly lengthy and complicated
instructions for RESTORING THE OPERATING SYSTEM.
AND ...FOR TURNING 'SYSTEM RESTORE' OFF AND ON.

It's very discouraging
and I am not confidant that XP and DirectX
is compatible.

Can anyone advise me?

Will I have this problem with Pinnacle
as an analog video interface?

Is AGP 4X, the video controller
supplied with my Dell
the same as DirectX 9.0?

Do I need some kind of
additional card?

What interface will work
with my components?

Can you or anyone forward this to
any of your friends who
might know.

Thanks tons from Newport, RI

Bob
