Up graded a Compaq Presario 7598 to windows xp home, and did a clean install
to format hard disk to NTFS. Since then, my computer freezes up or hangs
up, only when my Intel 810E graphic controller is enabled.
Have downloaded every driver update available from Compaq and Intel.
Nothing helps.
Can I install a new graphic card to correct the problem or am I tattooed?

Mike;

You should be able to disable onboard graphics in the BIOS and install a
new video card. If you choose to do so, your system performance will
incease significantly. You need to find out what type of slot is available
on your motherboard; AGP or PCI, and but the appropriate card.
BTW; there should be no problem with the chip on your motherboard and WinXP
unless there is a conflict in resources that need resolving, or the chip
itself is humbug.

Ok, thanks!

Now how do I disable my graphics controller in the BIOS. I have been in the
BIOS, multiple times, and disabling it just isn't an option, I can see!
Please let me know if I am missing something.

Thanks.
