I am trying to back-up my entire hard drive on a Windows
XP Professional system to a DVD/CD external drive.Having
gone through most of the back-up wizard,I come to the
window that chooses the destination, and having entered
E:\(My DVD burner) I go to next box asking "Type name for
this back-up". Now everything I type in as a name
produces a "Back-up Utility Box" saying "The back-up file
name could not be used. Please ensure it is a valid path
and you have sufficient access. I've tried names-dates &
a combination of both with same results. SOME KIND PERSON
PLEASE HELP.

Windows XP's Backup doesnt support backup to CD/DVD's. You need to purchase
a third party program to do this.
Norton Ghost

Gerald:
Personally, when I backed up to DVD+RW, I left the name blank, and the
program wrote its own name. Back-up disk 1, back up disk 2, etc.
I hope this helps.

I worked my way through many trial versions before I found a backup program
that had the feature set I wanted AND worked with my burner. Some were
quite happy to write directly to disk. Others needed to be parked on the
hard drive first and burned to disk later.
Question (and sorry if it's off base - I'm tired) : When it asked for a
drive, you just typed in E: didn't you? You didn't type in E:\(My DVD
burner)?
