download installation failure

1. I downloaded recommended security critical updates
and the majority of the items failed installation 8/26/03.

2. Today I downloaded selected updates and chose the
automatic routine for installation. One hour has elapsed
and still no progress shows in the dialog box.

3. Should I cancel and try again using the file option?

You may have a corrupt catroot2 folder, you can rename this in safe mode.
It is located in C:\Windows\System32, rename it and it will be rebuilt,
then redownload and install the updates you are needing.
