windows xp hangs on shut down

How do I fix this: When shutting down windows hangs at
the logging off screen?

mine does the same but not all the time is this the same with yours, I
haven't had a reply yet so if you find out let me know. would be grateful

i donot know whether it will meet your case or not but for most problems i

When I had this problem, I found I had to update my BIOS, it fixed the
problem.

You just have to experiment. With mine it was the fan & temp monitor. If I
close that first I have no probs. Right click & shut the items near your
clock one at a time. (one each time you shut down) & keep a record on paper
telling you which you tried & the dif it made. Sooner or later you'll work
out which it is. I also close an application that is connected to my zip
drive as that was taking forever to close as well.
