I am attempting to do a clean install of xphome on my c
drive. I went through all the preliminaries after boot off
of the CD rom. The program went through everything through
Supply yur date and time settings. At that point the
screen said Setup will be complete in 22 minutes. The
lower left box said Installing Star menu items. That box
is still blank and the clock still says 22 minutes--for
the past 1 1/2 hours. Nothing is happening. Please tell me
how to proceed. Do I need to start over and hope, or....?
Thanks.

Try rebooting and see if the setup will continue. Do not press a key when
you see the message displayed or the XP C D will boot again. Just let it
pass to setup and see what happens.

Thank you. I tried that and it appeared to respond past
networks and appeared to stall again about half way
through completing setup. I'll try it again. Maybe I can
baby it along.

Rick,

You may wish to make sure that the only devices connected to your computer
are the mouse, keyboard, video cable from the monitor, and possibly your
speakers --- everything else should be disconnected (e.g. printer, scanner,
camera, network cable, phoneline etc.)

I'd suggest that at the beginning of the setup you delete the existing
partition, recreate the partition and reformat using the full format not the
quick format. If need be you can use the Recovery Console. There are
instructions on how to partition and how to format here
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm I also suggest that you check
out the info at the end of this page
