I'm trying to install Windows XP Home on my 40 GB hard
drive. It says...

Windows could not start because of the following boot
configuration problem:
did not properly generate ARC name for HAL and system
paths.
Please check the Windows documentation about ARC
configuration options and your hardware reference manuals
for additional information.

I can't find any information about the ARC configuration.

Anyone know what I should do?

Hi,

How far did the installation get? The error could simply be an indicator of
a bad boot.ini file. If the installer failed initially, did you disable any
BIOS level antivirus detection? And, is any third-party boot manager or
partitioning software in use? Did you pick to have WinXP install to an
existing partition or were you creating new ones as part of the
installation?
