Robin,

Word and Excel are component products found in Microsoft Office. From time
to time, many computer manufacturers/sellers offer it as a part of the
sale - however, this is entirely at the discretion of the
manufacturer/seller.

If you purchased your computer with XP pre-installed, its up to the
manufacturer what programs come with it. As they try to lower prices more
and more, Office products are being replaced by Works. You may have to
purchase and install Word and Excel separately.

Greetings --

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.
