When I open a Windows Media Player video, it says:
The program you are trying to run requires a current
Indeo codec.
To obtain a current driver that is compatible with this
version of Windows, please contact the manufacturer at
http://indeo.ligos.com.
How do I get the current Indeo codec without playing the
15 dollars, isn't there an automatic update....I have
Windows XP

The original Windows XP shipped with the v5.1 codecs from Indeo (Intel).
Ligos subsequently released an upgraded set of codecs designed explicedly
for WinXP, which was not licensed for distribution by MS.
Thus, XP SP-1 Slipstream version installs do not include the Indeo codecs,
but, a simple SP-1 upgrade should leave existing v5.1 codecs intact -- they
do still work with XP.
You can find the Intel/Indeo v5.1 codecs on original WinXP installation CDs
"\i386" and install them manually, or, do a google search and download the
v5.1 codecs, which are still freely available in the wild.
