I have the exact same problem which I am pretty sure
(after posting the problem on this newsgroup and taking
note of the replies) is due to my inadequate RAM
(currently 128mb - with Windows XP). Microsoft recommend
that you have at least as much RAM as the size of the
video file you're attempting to save - but there are ways
around this without having to necessarily upgrade your
RAM (although none of them have worked for me). They
involve either splitting your intended movie file in half
(or into thirds) and saving each piece seperately before
combining them again or increasing the size of your swap
file on the hard disk. 2 things I have learnt is that
doing anything with video files is extremely
memory/processor intensive and that PapaJohn's website is
superb for advice and guidance on all things MM2 (can't
remember the link address but it's often posted on this
newsgroup). Check your RAM and good luck!
