Hi,

My WMP is WMP 9.
I have downloaded Windows Media Codecs 8.0 for IT
Professionals from microsoft.com.

Is it ok ? or should i download codecs from divx.com for
viewing .avi files?

Can anybody tell me?

Thanks,

Hi,

Not all avi files are the same...when a DVD is converted to file it is quite
often created as an AVI file but unlike normal AVI files, requires a DivX
codec in order to play them. I couldnt get WMP to play DivX files until I
installed the DivX player.
http://www.divx.com/divx/player.php
http://www.divx.com/support/what.php

Please note that this isnt the only way to get the codec but its the only
way I know how to. Once installed you can play DivX AVI files in WMP. This
works because when a program installs codecs, these codecs are shared with
other programs, so even if you decide not to use the actual player...you can
now play DivX files on other media programs. Personally, I play all my DivX
files in the DivX player because of the superior quality . Although WMP is
the best general purpose player for most other video files that I have seen.

Goodluck.
