insuffient memory

why do i get a "warning insuffient memory" message while
loading a large software package(500 megs).

Because you are running out of swap space between the physical RAM in the
machine and your hard drive. How much space is free on the machine and how
much RAM is in the machine currently? Sounds like you may need more RAM if
its low.
