Regarding Video Capture Cards:
I assume I need that card only for analog, since digital movies from the
camcorder I can get via an USB input.
But does the 1394 card then accept the analog output from an earlier viedo
camera and allow it to be processed with MS Moviemaker 2 or do I need
something else yet to convert analog to digital? Or is that the very purpose
of the sugested 1394 SIIG card?

IEEE1394 (aka firewire aka iLink) is used to capture digital footage,
usually from a digital camcorder. A very few digital camcorders now use
USB2.0. USB1.1 is not normally fast enough for digital data transfer and
results in dropped frames.
To capture analog footage you need a separate analog capture card or a
graphics card which supports VIVO (video in and video out) such as the ATI
All in Wonder range.

But afaik there is no camcorder available yet, which supports USB 2.0
HighSpeed (theoretical 480 Mbps) - most of the camcorders with USB 2.0 have
"only" FullSpeed (theoretical 12 Mbps), which is not enough for capturing DV
(needs about 29 Mbps (and stores about 13 GB/h))...
