View Full Version : Getting Windows Updates offline

Hello all,

Is there a way to store the Windows Update downloads and use them offline
later?

I have slow Internet connection. When I need to update my Win XP OS, I
connect to Windows Update page and the engine checks the PC itself and
decides what downloads are needed. That's OK. But when I need to reinstall
the operating system, I have to make another 50-60 MBs download again.
Is there a way to download and store all the updates for -let's say- the
original CD version of XP and reuse it later when you need to reinstall the
OS?
For example with W98 this problem is much more critical. There are many
other PCs running on W98 in our network and I don't think I can handle the
updates online for all of them.

I'd really appriciate any help.

Thanks in advance

B.Tomruk

Tomruk,

To save the WindowsUpdate patches and upgrades locally, you must use the
corporate Windows Update Catalog, which lets you store fixes locally for
subsequent installation. To access this catalog, perform the following
steps:

Go to the general Windows Update Web site.
Under Other Options, select Personalize Windows Update.
Select the "Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under See Also"
option.
Click Save Settings.
Under See Also, you will now have Windows Update Catalog.

You can also access the corporate Windows Update Catalog directly at this
Microsoft Web site. After you access the catalog, you can add several fixes
to your "basket" that Windows Update will download to your machine.
