View Full Version : Add or Remove Windows Componentss????

Please forgive this dumb question but I've NEVER understood what is added or
removed here. I want to remove some Windows componentss like internet games
but I'm not sure what I'm removing (or installing). The boxes next to the
component has a check mark. If I uncheck to box will that components be
removed (or installed?)? Are the other components that have check marks
removed (or installed?)? Are the other components that are unchecked removed
(or installed?)? Do I uncheck them also? Do I leave everything alone or do I
uncheck everything and THEN check the items I want to remove?

Do I sound confused? I am. This has seemed very unclear to me since Windows
95. I tried Help and Support. No help or support there. Okay! I'll admit
it's me!

Thanks, Dan

If I understand what you are asking if you uncheck a component it will be
uninstalled when you select next. Conversely, checking a box will install the
component.

Danny, thanks for the quick response. But, here's an example of what
confuses me.

From you answer I gather that if a box is now unchecked the component is not
installed. That's wrong. For example, Windows Messenger is not checked but
this lousy component sure was installed with the operating system. It used
to remind me it was installed far too often until one of the MSVP's gave me
a "fix".

My point: from your answer anything that's checked now is installed and,
conversely, anything unchecked is not installed. Clearly not the case.

Still dazed and confused, Dan

Just a guess, but what are your 'Set Program Acces and Defaults' settings? If
Windows Messenger is your only problem then I might be able to suggest a
solution.

You're confusing Windows Messenger with the Messenger
service--they're two different animals. It appears from
your questions that you are doomed to remain dazed and
confused, especially if a simple process like adding and
removing Windows components throws you.

Wislu,

I was being humble. You're being an ass. Now why did I waste my time
responding to a jerk like you.

Sorry to the group

Dan

Danny, Thanks for your response and courtesy. Actually, I just waded in,
forgot my trepidation and removed the components. I was annoyed by Wislu's
response and went for it.

Again, thanks.

Unchecked boxes are items that are not installed. If the item is installed
then a check will appear in the box. Remove the check to uninstall.

And it would appear that you have a great deal to be humble
about.

Thanks to all who provided civil and intelligent answers. "Wislu Plethora",
the cowardly little punk who seems to lurk around these groups practicing
being a snotty little pseudo-intellectual, stop exposing yourself. It's
embarrassing.

Sincerest Regards (you too, Wislu) Dan

I love you too. And I'll have you know that I don't have
to practice; I happen to be an accomplished snotty
little pseudo-intellectual.

Your welcome. I'll admit that "why something's are done the way they are" is
confusing to me too. But if you lurk around these groups long enough you'll
find that most of those unclear issues have a way of becoming as clear as
mud ;-)
