boots to black screen

Odd one here. My system will boot up, give the splash
screen and then go black. Then, I hear the Windows 'start
up sound' and the system keeps chugging and presumably
loading all it should. I can even synch my palm pilot
after booting. Yet, the screen stays black. No known
recent changes. Does the same in Safe Mode, VGA mode and
rolling back to last known good config. Replaced AGP card
with another, also tried PCI VGA card. Also tried
different monitors. Same results. Just not getting an
image after the splash goes away.

Any thoughts?
