I've just assembled a brand new computer utilizing an
Asus P4C800=E deluxe Motherboar with an Intel 2.6 P4.
When I try to install XP (Home) from my new OE disk it
begins the process then flashes the message "File\i386
\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7.
Setup cannot continue."
According to the Micrtosoft knowledghe base this is a
problem when upgrading from Windows 98 or ME -- but I'm
not! I'm trying to make an original clean installion of
XP from a new CD.
How do I get around this?

I'm grateful for the swift response -- but it gets me
NOWHERE! I've gone through the entire list of
troubleshooting advice proposed by Nicholas and nowhere
does it address my problem! Which is being unable to
make a NEW installation of XP (no previous versions of
anything present) on known-compatible hardware. The XP
installer plainly is confused and (see my msg) appears to
think multiple processors are involved.

Has anyone else experienced this version of XP hell??
Has anyone found a way out? IS there a way out?
