View Full Version : windows remembering passwords

When I log on to check email or other things that require
a password, I get the usual prompt by Windows that
says "Do you want Windows to remember this password so
that you don't have to type it again the next time you
visit this page?" every time I sign into that page, even
though each time I've answered either yes or no. How can I
fix this problem? It's annoying to receive that prompt
every time I want to access my email. This seems to be a
new problem that occurred maybe a few months ago. Prior to
that time I had already told Windows that I wanted it to
remember my password and it did. Thanks.

Thanks Doug. I'm following your trimmed down version. In
step 4 where I'm directed to select "Replace permission
entries. . . ", my system already has checked "Inherit
from parent the permission. . . ". Should I uncheck that
box first? I followed the instructions by just checking
the "replace" box without unchecking the "inherit" box,
and it didn't seem to change anything. I stopped right
there. Thanks again!

Pat,

After you adjust the permissions, you may need to press the F5 key to
refresh the display, so that you can see you have new subkeys available.
You can leave the Inherit from...... box checked. Unchecking it just pops up
a dialog asking are you sure?

Hi Pat,

Download the the Auto-Complete , OE save password fix from here:

http://web14.compaq.com/falco/sp_detail.asp?SoftwareVer=17253

If you are unable to apply that fix, try the manual procedure here:

Doug:

As it turned out, I didn't need to press the F5 key. I
followed your directions, and now Windows is remembering
the passwords! The warning from Microsoft about editing
the Registry at your own risk was a bit unnerving, but
everything seems to have turned out OK. Thanks again! I
hope our dialog can help other people as well.

Pat
