I would like to download Service Pack 1, but before I do
I want to "create an Automated System Recovery file" and
I would like to down load it onto a rewritable disc.
PLEASE! help me before I pick the whole thing up and see
if I can throw it and hit another country with it. !!!
Thank You for your time, Pam

If your version of XP is the Home version then your won't have ASR available
to you. ASR is part of the Backup program that ships with XP. While it is
functional in the Backup program that installs on XP Pro it will not
functional properly on XP Home.
If your version of XP is Pro then go to programs->Accessories->System
Tools->Backup. The ASR Button is part of the Wizard that is run when you
launch the program. ASR is not the greatest process. Firstly it will create
a copy of your system state without compression. Sot he file can be huge
depending on your current install. It can not be saved directly to CD
because 1) The Backup program can't save directly to CD-R and 2) the backup
program can't span CDs even if it could.
You are much better off with a third party imaging program. Many people like
Drive Image 2002 from www.powerquest.com or Ghost 2003 from www.symantec.com
.. A cheaper alternative is Image for Windows from
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/faqimgw.html all three will create full
system images that can be burned directly to CD-R or CD-R/W and can be used
to recover a full system failure with.
You can download Service Pack 1 from here
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/network.asp
and the file can be saved to CD if you wish.
