Search Freezes and Then Closes

Whenever I do a Search using Start-Search, the search
freezes and then shuts itself down. Does anyone know the
cure for this? I am running Windows Xp Home. I have done
a virus scan and a Norton SystemWorks 2003 Pro find and
fix problems, all to no avail. Any suggestions? Thank you
for whatever help you can offer.
