Does anyone know if you can get an upgrade from Win XP
Home to Win XP Pro. Will the upgrades specified for Win
2000 work or do I need to purchase a full version of Win
XP Pro?

The upgrade version of XP Pro works fine to upgrade over XP Home.

Not sure I understand the above part, what exactly are you trying to
achieve?

Yes. There is no special upgrade version just for this, but the
regular XP Professional Upgrade works fine (although it doesn't
say so on the box).
But are you sure you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Home
and Professional are identical except that Professional includes
a few features (mostly related to security and networking)
missing from Home? Most home users don't need and would never use
these extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.

Yes you can use the version of XP that upgrades Windows 2000 to upgrade
Windows XP Home version.

The OP wants to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro. The packaging for XP Pro
Upgrade version does not specify that it can be used it to upgrade XP Home
so they want to know if they can use the same version to upgrade XP Home as
that used to upgrade Windows 2000. The answer is yes to the Upgrade version
and no to needing to purchase a Full version.

Greetings --
The retail WinXP Pro Upgrade works on WinXP Home. (Apparently, the
Microsoft executive who approved the packaging design for the WinXP
Pro Upgrade box didn't consider the possibility that some peoples'
requirements could change after purchasing WinXP Home, or that some
people might not do the necessary research to make sure that they
bought the correct version of WinXP the first time.)

Of course, there are no iron-clad, 100% guarantees when it comes
to updating any kind of computer software, much less an operating
system. WinXP is designed to install and upgrade the existing
operating system while simultaneously preserving your data and
translating as many personalized settings as possible. The process is
designed to be, and normally is, quite painless. That said, things can
go wrong, in a small number of cases. If your data is at all
important to you, back it up before proceeding.

Yes - The regular XP Pro upgrade is described as for Win98, ME, NT 4 or
Win2000, with no mention of XP Home, but it does the job (run the CD
from the existing system).
