View Full Version : Wide-screen Problems - Sceptre X7SV Naga

I am having a bit of a difficult time correctly setting up
my new widescreen LCD monitor - Sceptre X7SV Naga.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP1 and an ATI Radeon
9600 card with the latest Catalyst drivers.

Basically:

It is a 17" widescreen which is proving to be a bit of
pain to deal with properly. See, I don't want it to just
STRETCH the screen image to fill it edge to edge, but that
is the only way I can figure it out. Looks a tiny bit
stretched horizontally. I would like it to be regular in
aspect, just with more space on the sides.

Looked at Sceptre's "support" site and the only thing they
say is:

"If you connect it to a computer, please set the
resolution to 1280x768"

When I do that (which is an option under Settings in
Display Properties) the screen actually "becomes" the
width of the monitor but stays in a normal window aspect -
meaning an inch is sliced off of each side. However, I can
use my mouse to sort of roll over to the sides - like it's
there and usable but hidden.

Under DISPLAYS in the ADVANCED contol panel the Flat Panel
Display only registers as 1024X768. Yet under SUPPORTED
MODES it does list 1280X768.

What?

Now what I do is set the resolution to 1024X768 and set
the aspect ratio on the MONITOR ITSELF to 16:9. (The
monitor has the option of choosing between 16:9 or the
normal square aspect in the OSD.) That leads to the
slightly stretched image as it compensates to fill the
screen. When I click on the button under the flat panel
display section that says something like "adjust for
screen size" or something (computer is at home and I can't
check right now) it doesn't seem to make a difference.

And when I click that on 1280 resolution then it does NOT
fill the screen. It still has those inch wide black bars
on each side.

Am I missing something? Am I supposed to be slightly
squished? It still looks great and if that's just the way
it is then it's all right, but if there is an answer I
want to know!

By the way, I am running Windows XP and have installed the
monitor using the .INF file from the Sceptre "support"
site.

Finally - when I play Unreal Tournament 2003 I can set my
resolution to 1280 and it works perfectly. No squishing,
no black bars on the side.

Weird, no?

I would appreciate any help -

Paul
