Lost files

My roomate just purchased and installed Windows XP on her
computer, now all of her files that she had have
vanished. Can you recover them?

Unless she formated during installation, all of her files should be there
but probably not in the location she expects. She should open Windows
Explorer, open Documents and Settings, go to her user ID and see if her
files are their. If not, she should do a search in Explorer for a document
file type of one of her files. Assuming she had files done in Word, the
file type would be doc. That would bring up any Word files she might
previously have created as well as any other doc files on the system. She
can then check the location of the files previously done as that should be
the location of most of whatever is missing.
