Well, I can't believe it but I solved my Sony/XP problems
with a new cable. I don't understand it because I tried
*three* different cables with the exact same setup and XP
never even made a peep when I plugged the camcorder in. I
ended up borrowing a cable from a friend with XP and
multiple Sony cams that all worked and presto, when I
plugged the cam in WinXP recognized it as a Sony TRV-25
and away I went. I captured an hour of video
successfully.
Unfortunately I had to give the cable back but at least I
know that is all I need. Here's one more peculiar thing --
the other three cables had nothing on the ends except the
connectors; the cable I had success with has two cylinders
on each end. Don't know what they are - filters,
resistors? Who knows. But maybe I have something here....
Good luck to all -- what a great sound it is to hear when
Windows pops up the "new hardware found" chime!
